Val di Fiemme curiosities:
The Lakes of the wild Lagorai
The Lagorai mountain chain: true, pristine and silent.
A unique environment steeped in history, home to more than 100 beautiful alpine lakes and an endless collection of war relics among its peaks.
The Lagorai chain is as fascinating as it is treacherous, and the most sought-after destination for those who love true, pristine, silent mountains. It is invariably described as “wild”, not so much for its difficulty but for the almost complete absence of rest stops, leaving nothing but rocks, nature and silence.
A unique environment is home to more than 100 brilliantly colourful alpine lakes among its peaks – truly a feast for the eyes and heart. None of the lakes in the Lagorai chain can be reached by car, a characteristic that makes them real jewels set among the rocks: crystal-clear, silent stretches of water.
It is an environment steeped in history, featuring paths, mule tracks, trenches and military caves built on the ridge line stone by stone. Incredibly, these relics are still present, reminding us of World War I – fought on a mountain as beautiful as it was hostile to be an enemy.
There are many hiking routes and they are also popular in winter: almost all the peaks can be reached on skis and many offer first-class descents.
The Lagorai mountains will impart unique emotions, provided you approach them with respect, knowledge and the right spirit.
